POLICE in Helensburgh have thanked the “vast majority of people” who are respecting government guidance during the coronavirus lockdown – despite two members of the public being charged with breaching the regulations close to the town's Covid-19 assessment centre.

Officers were called out twice to a house in Mossend Place, on East King Street, in the early hours of Easter Monday regarding people allegedly refusing to leave the property.

Police confirmed that two individuals were charged with allegedly breaching Covid-19 legislation which prevents members of different households from gathering together.

Officers say they are continuing to engage with residents in the community to ensure the restrictions are being complied with, and a number of people within the Helensburgh and Lomond area have been spoken to.

Police actions have included asking them to leave and return to their place of residence, and asking them to take exercise from their own address rather than travelling any distance to do so.

However, area inspector Roddy MacNeill said that so far “numbers are low” and offered his thanks to the “vast majority of people who are respecting the guidance and minimising the impact on the NHS and other services”.
