HELENSBURGH'S Waitrose supermarket is limiting the number of customers allowed in the branch at any one time to provide "a safer shopping environment".
No more than 32 people will be allowed in the Cardross store at any one time – a number based on the size of the store, the number of payment facilities and the need for people to remain at least two metres away from each other.
In a statement posted on the Facebook page of The Bridge, Helensburgh Parish Church's halls facility, on Tuesday evening, branch manager Kevin Sharkey said: "To facilitate social distancing and a safer shopping environment Waitrose will be limiting the number of customers that are in the branch at any given time to 32.
"This is calculated using both the size of the branch and the number of payment options that are in place allowing for a 2m safe distance.
"This will likely lead to queues outside as has been the case for long periods of today.
"I apologise in advance if this inconveniences you. I would also like to thank the customers today who have been extremely positive and understanding of the situation.
The shop is also giving over a dedicated hour for vulnerable people and those who care for vulnerable people – this is from 8-9am Monday to Saturday, and from 9-10am on Sunday.
Mr Sharkey added: "As not all disabilities are visible we appeal to peoples better nature to shop out with these hours if possible.
To allow for better and safer restocking the branch will also be closing at 7pm from Friday, March 27 for the foreseeable future."
