WORK by Helensburgh’s churches to give a helping hand to those in the most desperate need has been given a significant boost thanks to a fund-raising event in the town on Saturday.
A coffee morning hosted by Helensburgh Parish Church brought in £440 towards the cost of ‘Wellbeing Packs’ for people in the area who have presented as homeless.
The project is supported by volunteers from St Michael and All Angels Church and the United Reformed Church as well as Helensburgh Parish Church, with each church building hosting a collection box for donations of toiletries.

Completed packs are then distributed to people in short-term accommodation via Carr Gomm’s housing support service, the Women’s Refuge charity and the Helensburgh and Lomond Foodbank.
The packs themselves comprise shampoo, shower gel, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, facecloths, moisturiser, deodorants, facial wipes, shaving gel, combs, hairbrushes, nail files and nailbrushes, razors, men’s socks,
Elizabeth Lambert from the Wellbeing Packs volunteer team said: “Donations of toiletries are always welcome; you can pick up a flyer listing wanted items from any of the three churches.

“Monetary donations can be given in to the Helensburgh Parish Church office, marked ‘Wellbeing Packs’.
“The coffee morning made £440, and our thanks go to all the helpers, donators and supporters on the day, especially for coming out in such bad weather.
“This amount will go towards buying required items which have not been donated, and should keep us going for the next six months.
“We are a small group so we only organise the one fund-raiser a year and the rest of the time we rely on donations.”
