CHARITY coastal walker Karen Penny waved goodbye to Helensburgh and Lomond at a jam session in Kilcreggan.
Karen, whose fund-raising efforts on behalf of Alzheimer Research UK featured in last week’s Advertiser, was welcomed to The Creggans in the village last Wednesday night, when Geoff and Isabel Connaghan-Lees, who gave her a bed and food for the night, took her along to the pub for the Killie Jammers’ regular session.
A whip-round among those present raised a further £60 for Karen’s appeal, which had passed £46,000 as this article was published.

Since waving a fond farewell to the Helensburgh and Lomond area, Karen’s journey has taken her on to the Bute and Cowal area, and – after an unscheduled wait at Portavadie when the ferry to Tarbert was cancelled – to mid Argyll.
Her journey continues in Oban on Saturday, to Portnacroish on Sunday, and onwards to Ballachulish and Fort William, where she hopes to arrive on Tuesday.
In a post on Facebook after she made it across on the Portavadie-Tarbert ferry, Karen said: "I cannot thank enough the incredible friends I have met this week, without whom, in the freezing weather here, I would not be in the very good shape I am in."
Keep up to date with Karen's progress on her Facebook page – you can also donate to her fund-raising efforts via her JustGiving page.
