THERE were smiles all round at Jean’s Bothy last week as Helensburgh’s mental health hub opened its doors to the public.

The facility, which opened last year on the corner of South King Street and East King Street, was packed full on Friday, October 11 as more than 100 people turned up to find out more and enjoy afternoon tea, cakes and a rafle.

Katrina Sayer, development manager, said: “The open day was a huge success.

“A lot of those who attended were new visitors and a number of new members registered on the day, while more took membership forms away with them.

“A raffle raised over £100 and donations took the total amount to £150. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon tea all prepared and served by members Lynne, Cathy and supported by Nicole and Tony on the day.

“Scottish Fire and Rescue turned up towards the end of the day, after being called out, with a fire engine which delighted the younger visitors. There was also face painting on offer for the young - and not so young.

“The whole day was a team effort by members, Enable staff, HSCP staff and we also had help from The Journey. I’d also like to thank Debbie McCallum for donating the balloons, Julie Cormack for the fantastic cakes, all those who donated raffle prizes, china tea-sets, and cake stands on the day, and all the members who worked so hard leading up to the day preparing the bothy to look its best.

“The bothy is a cottage with quite a lot of work still needed and the members did wonders to make it look so good.

“We were also lucky to receive donations for the raffle from The Journey, Waitrose and CNS Make Up.

“Jackie Baillie was able to come along and saw the progress that’s been made since she last visited.

“Jean’s Bothy is open to members only so it’s nice to open it up to the public every so often to allow those interested in to see what we do and meet members.”
