HELENSBURGH Coastguard Rescue Team was called out to Inverclyde at the weekend after a suspected mine was found on a stretch of foreshore.
The team joined their Greenock counterparts, police and Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts, on Saturday morning, September 7, to investigate the find on the shore at Cove Road, Gourock.
The EOD team could not rule out the possibility of the item being a mine or bomb initially and a cordon was put in place before it was examined further.

The EOD team later confirmed it was safe and the item, determined to be most likely a tram wheel, was removed from the shore for disposal.
Teams were stood down around 3.30pm and returned to their stations.
A social media statement from the Greenock Coastguard Rescue Team said: βIt is imperative that if you come across any suspicious items on the coast, you dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard immediately, even if you're in doubt.β
