THERE were plenty of smiles, and perhaps a few tears, on show as pupils at Hermitage Academy said a fond farewell to their schooldays at their leavers’ ball.

The pupils from across Helensburgh and Lomond, sporting a cutting-edge array of sharp suits and glittering gowns, were transported to the sumptuous surroundings of the Mar Hall Hotel in Bishopton, where they enjoyed a delicious meal before dancing the night away on the last occasion they’ll all be together before heading off to further or higher education or to the world of work.

The night was also a chance for the school to celebrate the achievements of the pupils over the last few years, both in terms of their academic performance and their contribution to the life of the school.

The night was organised by teachers Miss Nairn and Miss Elliott, who were presented with beautiful bouquets of flowers as a thank you by the school’s departing S6 pupils for their efforts in bringing together a memorable night – and a fitting note on which pupils and staff alike could say goodbye and good luck for the future.

The night was hailed afterwards by Argyll and Bute education officer Douglas Morgan, who took to Twitter to call it “a wonder evening of celebration for a simply superb group of young people”.
