A HELENSBURGH pub’s licensees say they hope to reopen their business later this week after winning a partial victory in their fight against restrictions imposed by licensing chiefs.

Cara and Milan Nikolic succeeded in persuading the Argyll and Bute licensing board to overturn an 11pm curfew on Friday and Saturday nights imposed on the Logie Baird, in James Street, in April.

But at a meeting in Lochgilphead on Tuesday, the board decided not to give the couple back the pub’s 2am late licence, meaning it will have to stop serving alcohol at 1am at weekends.

The restrictions were originally imposed for a six-month period after Police Scotland expressed concerns about the number of public disorder incidents in the vicinity of the pub.

Mr and Mrs Nikolic announced last week that they had decided to shut the doors of the Logie Baird because the restrictions imposed in April meant the business was no longer viable.

Afterwards Mrs Nikolic said: “The board gave us a fair hearing and we are pleased they agreed to lift the curfew.

“We will do everything we can now to try and reopen the premises this Friday and bring back Helensburgh’s nightlife.

“We will be monitoring it closely on a month-by-month basis to see if the curfew being lifted improves things enough.

“But we are looking at it as a positive step and we will do everything we can to make it work."
