WHOOPS of delight echoed over the rooftops of Helensburgh on Friday night as pupils, parents, staff and friends of Hermitage Primary flocked to the school’s summer fair.
The annual fund-raising event featured a barbecue, a Lego Run, a ‘beat the goalie’ stall, home baking, nail and face painting, and a chance to pan for treasure, among much more.
But among the host of attractions on offer, by far the most popular - perhaps not surprisingly - was the Soak the Teacher stall, as head teacher Elspeth Davis, deputy head Paul Mulvenna and P3 class teacher Simon Henry gamely volunteered to have themselves doused in water by enthusiastic pupils - and maybe even one or two adults - and even covered in a little bit of glitter.

The school’s P6 pupils also set up their own stall, selling home-made jam and scones - all made by themselves - in order to raise money for SNAC, the Scottish Network for Arthritis in Children.
Tamara Brown-Millberg, vice-chair of the school’s parent council, told the Advertiser: “We are thrilled to announce that we raised approximately £1,900, with all funds going directly back to the school to benefit all children.”
The parent council added, in a statement on their Facebook page: “We are very appreciative to those who bent their backs and arms to move many tables and chairs, hang bunting, cheerfully serve burgers with smoke in their eyes, bake cakes and take your turn to help run a stall. You are truly terrific!
“To the teachers and staff of Hermitage, perhaps especially those who sacrificed themselves in the stocks for a soaking, thank you for sharing in both the hard work, and the fun.

“And to everyone who came along and spent time exploring the fair, thank you for your support. It makes a huge difference to the fair’s success.
“The children at Hermitage Primary School benefit in so many ways from the funds raised.”
The parent council is also keen to hear from mums and dads who would like to help organise events - and suggest new ideas - when the new school year starts in August.
