LUSS boxer Hannah Rankin has made history by becoming Scotland's first female boxing world champion.
The former Hermitage Academy pupil secured a unanimous points victory in the IBO super-welterweight world title fight against American Sarah Curran at the Lagoon Leisure Centre in Paisley on Saturday night.
Rankin, 28, found her opponent a tough nut to crack, particularly in the opening rounds, but as the fight went on the classically-trained bassoonist grew in strength and confidence and slowly gained the upper hand as Curran began to tire.
Speaking after the fight to Alison Walker from BBC Scotland, who televised the fight live, Rankin said: "Amazing. All credit to Sarah Curran – she brought the fight and it made it a great show for everybody here at home.
"A world title fight shouldn’t be easy, it should be hard, and all credit to her and her team.
"I was ready to go 10 rounds. It was a great fight; we put on a great show for women's boxing. One of the best nights of my life."

"I thought we did win it by two rounds, but it was very very close."
