VOLUNTEER beach cleaners were on to a shore thing in Helensburgh as they rolled up their sleeves to tackle the nuisance of marine litter on the town’s seafront.
The clean-up effort was organised by Helensburgh Community Council (HCC), which holds regular beach cleans along the West Esplanade throughout the summer months in a bid to keep the waterfront looking at its best for people visiting the town.
The monthly clean-up event in Helensburgh is held in addition to similar beach cleans held on a regular or occasional basis in Cardross, Rhu, Garelochhead, Kilcreggan and Arrochar, all of which are affected to some degree by marine litter from far afield washed up on the tide in the Firth of Clyde.

Norman Muir, HCC’s convener, said: “Once again the Community Council is indebted to our increasing band of volunteers who took part in the beach clean last Saturday.
"It was great to see mums and children taking part on such an occasion and making the West Esplanade neat and tidy for community enjoyment.

“A special word of thanks goes to Davy Howie of Drumfork farm, who provided a tractor and harrow to loosen up the debris, and also Argyll and Bute Council staff at the Blackhill depot for removing it at the end of proceedings.”
