The turnout in Argyll and Bute was one of the highest in Scotland, with the 46.8 per cent figure beaten only by Edinburgh (50.2%), East Renfrewshire (48.4%) and East Dunbartonshire (47.1%).
Across Scotland, 31 of the country's 32 local authorities have announced their result – the Western Isles count takes place on Monday morning as staff there do not work on a Sunday for religious reasons, though the result there will not be significant enough to change the overall outcome.
Though the formal declaration is still to come, the SNP is on course to have three of Scotland's six MEPs, with one each set to be elected from the Brexit Party, the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives.
