FOLLOWING their sell-out performance of Will Todd’s ‘Mass in Blue’ in December, Helensburgh Oratorio Choir were invited to join his premier performance in New York.
Eight members of the choir made the trip in April, joining 200 choristers led by Dr Alicia Walker, musical director at South Carolina University, organised by Distinguished Concerts at the Lincoln Center, home of New York Philharmonic.
Chair Alicia Tindal said: “It was great to sing with so many young voices, they were all so enthusiastic and excited at meeting the composer, Will Todd.”
The performance coincided with the New York Tartan Day Parade and the ladies proudly carried a Helensburgh Oratorio Choir banner up 6th Avenue.

Anne Mitchell said: “The atmosphere on the parade was fantastic, with lots of groups giving us a shout, including two people from Helensburgh.”
Billy Connolly was this year’s Grand Marshal, and the Big Yin responded with a thumbs up as the group marched past singing Loch Lomond.
