COULD you be one of the next generation of Helensburgh business start-ups?

Do you have an idea for a new product or service, or an innovative spin-off from an existing business?

Or maybe you are toiling to get your new business up and running from the end of your kitchen table?

The good news is that Helensburgh’s brand new innovation hub, located at the town’s library, will soon be ready to welcome entrepreneurs, freelances, career changers, consultants, contractors – in fact, anyone who needs a modern, bright co-working space with a range of services to support them.

Live Argyll and Helensburgh Community Council, the joint forces behind the new hub, are holding an open day next month to promote the hub, named after Helensburgh’s great innovator, John Logie Baird.

The event, taking place at Helensburgh Library, where the new service is to be based, will feature several ‘zones’, including a business information village, presentations from established innovators, hot desking, live networking, local food, and a children’s play area.

The open-plan workspace has high speed broadband, video conferencing and a 3D printer, while admin support, business advice and personalised training are also on offer. There will be space for networking, teamworking, one-to-ones, seminars and events – and good coffee too.

Pat McCann, LiveArgyll’s business operations manager, said: “The hub is looking for the next generation of entrepreneurs, spin-outs and start-ups determined to take their ideas from the drawing board and establish themselves. This is where we can help.”

The hub is working closely with Recruit for Spouses to help armed forces spouses set up their own business, as well as former Royal Navy personnel who are moving to civilian life and are looking for a new challenge.

The organisers say they hope there will also be a demo on how the innovative Internet of Things (IoT) can improve lives and save money.

Helensburgh is to be one of Scotland’s first areas to roll out IoT – a world in which many everyday “things” are connected via the internet.

The ‘John Logie Baird Innovation Hub’ open day at the library runs from 10am-3pm on June 8.
