HERMITAGE Academy is ranked 63rd of Scotland's 339 state secondary schools in the country's latest exam result league tables.
According to Scottish Government data, 45 per cent of school-leavers achieved five or more Highers in 2017-18.
The league tables rank Hermitage in second place among Argyll and Bute's secondary schools, behind Tarbert Academy in mid-Argyll, which was the only Argyll and Bute secondary to make the Scottish top 50, coming in at 42nd place after exactly half of the pupils sitting Highers there in 2017-18 achieved five or more passes.
By a different measurement, Hermitage had the third best Higher pass rate in Argyll and Bute in 2018, accordong to Argyll and Bute Council figures, after a total of 82.67 per cent of pupils presented for Higher exams achieved a pass – a rate bettered only by the island high schools in Tobermory, Mull, and on Tiree.

No other Argyll and Bute school made it into the Scottish top 100 in the 5+ Higher league tables: next was Tobermory High on 38 per cent, followed by Dunoon Grammar in 168th (33 per cent), Oban High in 242nd (26 per cent), Campbeltown Grammaar in 258th (24 per cent), Islay High School in 259th (also 24 per cent) and Rothesay Academy in 293rd (21 per cent).

One Argyll and Bute secondary, Tiree High, was not listed in the league tables; it's likely that this is because the small number of pupils attending the school means publishing the data would compromise pupils' anonymity.
In neighbouring West Dunbartonshire, Our Lady and St Patrick's High School in Dumbarton was 98th on the list with a 5+ Higher pass rate of 41 per cent, while Dumbarton Academy occupied 199th place (31 per cent) and Vale of Leven Academy was 284th (23 per cent).
The league table was topped, once again, by Jordanhill School in Glasgow's west end, the only Scottish state secondary school not under local council control, where 83 per cent of those who sat Higher exams last spring achieved five or more passes.
All bar one of the top ten schools in this year's league tables are located in Glasgow or the surrounding area.
