HERMITAGE Academy has been congratulated in the Scottish Parliament after becoming the first school in Scotland to be given national accreditation by the ‘Investors in Young People’ organisation.
A members’ motion by Helensburgh’s MSP, Jackie Baillie, hails the work put in by staff and pupils to achieve the award, which was confirmed last month in recognition of the school’s commitment to recruiting, retaining and developing their young workforce.
The school secured financial help from the Scotland’s Year of Young People fund to help it through the process.

Ms Baillie’s motion “recognises in particular, the work of Roseanne MacKay, who is the Academy’s depute head and led it through the process of gaining the accreditation; wishes the school all the best as it continues to aim to make a positive impact on the lives of the pupils, and believes that it is helping to lead the way as a first-class educator”.
The motion has attracted the support of Labour’s Neil Bibby, the Conservatives’ Alexander Burnett, and Bob Doris, Stuart McMillan, Bill Kidd, Richard Lyle, Stewart Stevenson and Ruth Maguire of the SNP.
