OUTDOOR enthusiasts have voted a garden just outside Helensburgh as one of the UK’s top 100 green spaces in a recent poll.
Geilston Garden, in Cardross, was named on the list after readers of Garden News magazine picked their favourite local landscapes.
The centre’s walled garden, on the banks of the River Clyde, dates back over 200 years and also features a playground and mini maze for children.
Alison Farrell, head gardener at Geilston, said: “We are delighted to have been selected as one of the UK’s top 100 gardens.
“It is of tremendous pride for both staff and our fantastically supportive team of volunteers that Geilston Garden, a National Trust for Scotland property, has inspired and captured the imagination of our visitors and they have voted us one of their favourite gardens to visit.
“Geilston’s charm comes from its accessibility, high standards of horticulture and its ethos of being a productive fruit and vegetable garden to inspire and educate its visitors.”
Scotland was further represented by the Threave and Inverewe gardens, which also belong to the National Trust.
Alison added: “The readers of Garden News magazine are true gardening enthusiasts which makes this award very special to the team at Geilston.
“With more emphasis on the benefits of gardening to health and wellbeing, it is hoped that Geilston will continue to develop and grow with importance over time.
“With continued community support and increasing visitor numbers, this beautiful National Trust for Scotland garden will continue to thrive and delight visitors in the future.”
