HELENSBURGH Community Council has taken on the organisation of the town’s Remembrance Sunday parade after the local branch of Legion Scotland folded.
Norman Muir, the community council’s convener, now wants all the local groups who are involved in the commemoration to contact him, so that the community council can begin to organise the 2018 event.
Mr Muir can be contacted by email on conn756@gmail.com.
Irene White, who set up the Helensburgh branch of what was then known as the Royal British Legion with her husband 22 years ago, said: “It’s sad, but we just weren’t able to get the members in any more.
“I stood down as chair at our last AGM for health reasons and no-one wanted to come forward to replace me.
“It was all done properly and above board – it was put to a vote of the members and they were in favour of closing the branch.”
