THREE people were arrested after a blockade at the southern entrance to HM Naval Base Clyde last week.
The trio were apprehended by police after the south access road at Faslane was blocked at 7am on Tuesday, August 8 – the 72nd anniversary of the Allies’ atomic bombing of Japan during the Second World War.
A press release issued by the nearby Faslane peace camp stated: “The protestors, from the nearby Faslane Peace Camp, chained themselves together on an access road to the facility’s southern gate at 0700, disrupting a shift change and shutting the road to all traffic for over three hours.
“A specialist police team was deployed to separate and remove the three.
“Following their arrest, the three protestors were taken to Clydebank police station and charged with breach of the peace, with one additionally charged with resisting arrest by refusing to walk from the scene.”
Sergeant Bob Magee from Police Scotland’s Helensburgh office said: “Three persons were arrested by MoD Police after a protest near the south access road to the base.
“All three were charged with breach of the peace.
“Two were released on bail with conditions imposed and the third was held in custody.”
Arthur West from the Scottish CND said: “The recent blockade is yet another example of the substantial opposition in Scotland to the Trident nuclear weapons system.”ffirm that nuclear deployment is not in our name.”
