MORE than 200 people attended a ‘service of institution’ to welcome a new rector to a Helensburgh church on Saturday.
The Scottish Episcopal Church’s Bishop of Glasgow and Galloway, Gregor Duncan, presided over the installation of Reverend Dominic Ind at St Michael and All Angels’ Church.
A large contingent of clergy from the local area and from the wider Episcopal church attended, as did a party from St Saviour’s in Bridge of Allan, his former church.
The sermon was delivered by the Most Reverend David Chillingworth, former Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church.
A highlight of the service was the presentation by members of the congregation of symbolic gifts to the new rector – a Bible to assist in teaching the faith, oil of chrism symbolising healing and reconciliation, a prayer book, bread and wine, and finally a key to represent the fact that the church’s door is open to everyone.
The service marked the end of a 10 month period of vacancy at the William Street church.
