Crowds flocked to Helensburgh Beer and Gin Festival last weekend - and they only left a drop of ale with every other drink selling out.

The annual event attracted about 2,500 people over the two days.

Andrew Duncan, the event organiser, told the Advertiser: "It was a massive success. We were very lucky with the fantastic weather and the way we had rearranged things from last year really helped give us more space.

"It was very busy but there was still enough elbow room to have a conversation."

He added: "We sold out of pretty much everything. We had a tiny bit of ale left, so there was no waste."

The event was bigger and better than last year with more facilities and more seating to prevent overcrowding.

But most importantly, this year's event offered a wider variety of alcohol with 60 ales, seven or eight lagers, 30 ciders and 20 gins on sale.

"We were very fortunate we had almost £10,000 of donations from local businesses to help us," Andrew added.

"Thanks to all the sponsors and donors and thanks to Helensburgh Sailing Club for allowing us to host it there.

"I am really grateful that there's loads of people are willing to help us."

The event raised almost £21,000 for The Helensburgh and District Round Table and the money will be used to support local projects and causes.
