MEMBERS and friends of Helensburgh Tree Conservation Trust celebrated an award win by completing the planting of an avenue of trees.
The celebratory planting of trees marked the winning of a community award from The Woodland Trust’s Street Tree Campaign, which is supported by the People’s Postcode Lottery.
Three trees were planted on December 2 to complete an avenue of more than 70 ornamental crab apples.
Iain Duncan, convener of the trust, said: “For years to come their rich red blossom will transform this street every spring.
"The planting was made possible by generous grants from Argyll and Bute Council’s Sustainable Community Initiatives Fund and Waitrose as well as HTCT members’ subscriptions.
“We were also celebrating the receipt of a grant of £5,000 from the Woodland Trust to help with the care and maintenance of street trees throughout the town.”
The trust is hoping to encourage more residents to become “tree guardians” by caring for vegetation near their home.
Lending a hand with the planting were the local Guides and Scout groups. Following the planting everyone enjoyed snacks provided by the Coffee Club.
