A WOMEN smashed a champagne bottle over another girl's head after the victim got involved in a fight with her mother.
And Christina Addie was warned at Dumbarton Sheriff Court that she could have faced a murder charge if the incident had more serious consequences.
Addie, 23, of Gare Road, Rosneath, appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last Thursday and admitting assaulting her victim by striking her on the head with a bottle.
The incident took place at Baird Avenue, Rosneath Drive, Helensburgh, on July 12 2014.
Fiscal Depute Emma Thomson told the court: "There was a party and a number of people were invited.
"A short time later witnesses became involved in another matter. Both left and waited for a taxi."
At this stage of the evening Addie, who had been drinking from a champagne bottle, got involved in an altercation and the assault took place in which her victim sustained a head injury.
An ambulance was summoned but the victim, although bleeding, did not require any stitches.
And investigation took place and Addie was later traced and detained for assault at Helensburgh Police Office.
Addie's defence agent told the court: "If a more serious injury occurred we may have been looking at an altogether different matter."
The defence agent also told how Addie was taking "significant steps" to improve her lifestyle, adding: "She does not abuse alcohol the way she used to.
"She does not know what came over her but her mother was involved in a fight with the victim."
Sheriff Hendry said: "This is not as serious as it could have been but you could have been sitting at the High Court accused of murder.
"This could have had the most fatal of outcomes."
Sheriff Hendry sentenced Addie to a 12-month Community Payback Order which requires her to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the community within the next nine months.
Addie will also be under supervision for the next 12 months.
