A KILGREGGAN pensioner has discovered a need for speed- at the ripe old age of 91.
Renee Poole told how she's fallen in love with go-karting after hitting top gear during a recent visit to a race track.
Renee was visiting 'The Experience,' based in Hillington Park, with her family when she enquired about having a go herself.
And specially trained staff were on hand to make sure that she could join in the fun.
Now the 91 year-old is telling more elderly people to experience the thrills and spills of go-karting.
She said: "I never thought that they would take my request seriously but after finding out a bit more, I couldn’t wait to have a try myself.
"I was in one of the tandems being driven round.
"I never thought that at my age I would ever get to take part in such an adrenaline filled activity.
"My message to anyone who is thinking about it is to go for it!”
It's understood that Renee is the oldest first time go-karter to be welcomed to 'The Experience', who've been running a 'Karting with a Conscience' programme since 2014.
The programme offers discounted Go-Karting to people with limited mobility, learning difficulties, or other additional requirements.
Specially adapted karts and equipment mean that those traditionally excluded from motor sport can now experience the thrill of the race track.
Karting with a Conscience Co-ordinator Bobby Boyd said: "Our philosophy is that everyone should have the chance to enjoy the excitement of go-karting and all the other leisure attractions we have here.
"Our Karting with a Conscience programme is designed to do just that.
"It was great to have Mrs Poole on the track and to introduce her to the world of motorsport.
"She proves that it doesn’t matter what age you are, you can always try something new.”
