They each performed a 15 minute set at City Halls in Glasgow to a live audience and judging panel, in addition to being live on BBC Radio Scotland.
Gaelic singer Ainsley Hamill was first on stage, performing a set of Gaelic songs. Fiddler Ryan Young – one of three fiddlers contending for the title – played traditional music, including The Rothiemurcas Rant and The Potato on the Door in addition to his own composition.
Hamill and Young, alongside the other finalists, will now receive one year’s membership of the Traditional Music and Song Association of Scotland (TMSA) plus the opportunity to take part in the TMSA’s annual Young Trad Tour.
The winner’s quaich was presented to Claire Hastings from Dumfries who won the title with Scots song. Hastings will now have the opportunity to launch a career in traditional music with help from BBC Radio Scotland. She has won a recording session with BBC Scotland, a performance at the Scots Trad Music Awards and one year’s membership of Musicians Union.
The final of the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician 2015 was part of Glasgow’s annual Celtic Connections festival, bringing the two weeks of traditional music to an end.
Presented by Mary Ann Kennedy, the final is available to listen to on BBC iPlayer Radio until March 3.
