HELENSBURGH enjoyed a right royal occasion today (Wednesday) when Princess Anne paid a visit to the town. Her Royal Highness, the Princess Royal, called at the Victoria Halls to unveil a plaque commemorating the 125th anniversary of the community facility.
In a royal first, her mother Her Majesty the Queen, personally approved the wording of the commemorative token - despatched to her by the Friends of the Victoria Halls committee before they had the plaque engraved.
She unveiled the unique plaque with royal approval, accompanied by Jigsaw group members Zoe Pearson, 29, and 17-year-old Maisie Thomson and Argyll and Bute's outgoing Provost, Billy Petrie.
Delighted Zoe told the Advertiser: "It was good. I was excited about it all night. When I came here this morning I was a wee bit nervous but after being nervous about it, I loved it." FOR A FULL REPORT AND PICTURES SEE TOMORROW'S ADVERTISER
