MACFARLANE J. Alan D. Peacefully, at Vale of Leven Hospital, on 25th November, 2019, Alan, beloved Brother, Uncle and Cousin to his loving family. Will be greatly missed; he gave so much to us all. Thanksgiving Service at Helensburgh Parish Church on Saturday, 7th December at 12 noon. Family flowers only.

So sorry to read of the passing of Alan. I was his PA at Collins publishers for many years and we exchanged Christmas cards, postcards and updated family news (apologies sent a card last week).
Alan was a true gentleman and a pleasure to work. Fabulous memories of him handing his trousers out of his office to allow me to sew them, rolling his flipchart paper to use as a funnel after running out of petrol and finding his beloved capri car without wheels. When he retired I presented him with a metronome which stood proudly on his baby grand piano.
