HARTLEY Dr Alexandra Hartley Aged 65, died peacefully from a brain tumour on 18th April 2018 at Vale of Leven Hospital. She was born in 1953 in Aruba, NI to James and Elizabeth Brown. In 1983 she married Philip Hartley and together they raised their son Kieran (17) and daughters Elizabeth (27) and Roisin (10). Alex served in the Queen Alexandra's Royal Naval Nursing Service as a Senior Nursing Officer and having worked as a Sister Tutor at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital in London. After her first child, Alex became an emergency and short term foster carer and welcomed many children into her home, eventually adopting two children. Alex gained her Doctorate of Education from the University of Glasgow in 2015 focusing on the education of foster carers. She was a truly remarkable person who spent her life in service of others. Funeral service will be held at Rhu & Shandon Parish Church on Friday, 27th April at 1pm. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Cancer Research UK.
