The Waverley is set to sail ‘doon the watter’ this summer to raise cash for a vital fund set up to support submariners.

The Submarine Family are holding their first major fundraising event onboard the famous paddle steamer on Friday, July 19.

Setting off from Glasgow’s Pacific Quay, the cruise will be hosted by Cassi Gillespie, from the Bowie at Breakfast show on Clyde 1, who will also treat those on board to a DJ set.

Before boarding the Waverley, attendees will be able to enjoy the sounds of the West of Scotland Military Wives Choir on the quayside.

Onboard and below deck, local band The Pies will be performing a set in the dining saloon.

Visitors will be able to enjoy a relaxing drink in the Jeanie Deans Lounge and the Talisman Bar.

A spokesperson for the event said: “Cassi Gillespie will be hosting the evening and providing a three-hour DJ set to ensure the party keeps going throughout the evening as you enjoy the sunset with incredible views on the Clyde, sipping on your favourite drink and partying to the sounds of Cassi's set.”

The Submarine Family is a fund of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity that supports all serving and retired submariners as well as their families.

Since its launch in May 2022, the charity has supported more than 6,000 members of the community including funding month of the military child events, submarine family days, and homecomings.

They have also supported veterans struggling with various issues such as homelessness and addiction.

Tickets cost £32 each and can be booked at tinyurl.com/submarinefamilywaverley.
