A 21-year-old man has died after falling 25ft down the hatch of a cargo vessel berthed at a Rosneath shipyard.
The incident sparked a major response from emergency service vehicles to the Peninsula, after the man fell at around 3.45pm on Sunday, February 14.
The incident occurred at Donnie Bruces ship yard on Sunday afternoon, with the man being airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said the man later died in the early hours of Monday morning.
Police were called to the scene after receiving a call the man had fallen on the ship.
A spokesman for DRB Marine said three members of the public from the same family entered the shipyard without authorisation. The two other people were not understood to have been injured.
He said: "We had an unauthorised entry to the shipyard by a member of the public who subsequently fell through a hatch.
"They were taken from the ship to the hospital."
Staff from DRB Marine assisted the emergency services in the operation to rescue the injured man.
A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said their role was "very limited", but two appliances attended from Cove and Garelochhead fire stations.
She said there had been reports of a 21-year-old casualty who had fallen what was thought to be 20ft, but later thought to be around 25 ft, down the hatch of a 7000 tonne cargo vessel, which left him unconscious.
She also said the Scottish Ambulance Service requested assistance from the air ambulance, but the fire brigade had looked to see if a rope rescue would have been appropriate.
The fire fighters were called out at 3.49pm, and left the scene at 6.41pm on Sunday, February 14.
The owners of neighbouring property Rosneath Boat Yard LTD has requested the Advertiser clarify they were not involved in the incident.
